The Trinity
Today is Trinity Sunday for some denominations which caused me to ask the Holy Spirit would you like me to write on this subject or another and He said this one!
Praise God, how are you church? The Trinity, what a wonderful subject; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. One God in three persons all equal and in complete unity.
It is not easy for us with our small minds to understand how God can be three persons but I like the example of H2O which can be in the form of steam, liquid or ice.
Let us look at each person of God and with His help we will learn something new to nourish our spirits and souls.
God the Father; A perfect Father and parent who loves us abundantly, actually more than we can comprehend. The source of love and indeed is love, 1 John 4:8. Always supporting us even if He has to discipline us-what parent, in love, does not discipline their children sometimes? Hebrews12:7-10
Our Father is generous, completely wise, very patient and always welcoming, He loves us to come to Him.
He went though great pain in watching His Son suffer and die so that we could be with Him. God the Son, Jesus; our Lord and Saviour. Is He your Lord as well as being your Saviour? Some people get saved but they never grow spiritually. Is Jesus Lord of your whole life?
He came and lived as a human but is now exalted on high, seated at the right hand of the Father (it’s a big seat). Philippians 2:8,9. He is now seated in heaven and is worthy of all our praise. We honour Him, we exalt, worship and praise Him! And when we do that we are in our rightful place and we feel blessed. All authority and power are now in His hands (He gave it all up whilst He was a normal man). He is the name above all names (there is no authority above Him). The King of Kings.
And He is also the “Lover of our Soul”. We read in Song of Songs of how passionate He is about us. Was passion first created in humans? Surely it already existed in God. Can anyone be more passionate than God? The Lord Jesus is passionate about us with a pure passion not corrupted like our passion. God created us for relationship and intimacy. Ephesians 5:31,32-the marriage of a man and woman and the intimacy they share is an example to us of the intimacy God wants to have with us spiritually. Jesus is our Bridegroom coming for His bride the church Revelation 19:7; 21:9 (I will finally be married!). What a day that will be church!
How do we both worship and honour the Lord Jesus and share intimacy with Him? When we come to Him we are full of praise, blowing our trumpets as we go up to the tabernacle, shouting and dancing. The as we come into the tabernacle and the Holy of Holies and come into His presence we cannot even speak in the wonder of his love. There is no love as close as His love. Imagine being the Presidents child. In public you call him ‘Mr President’ and show Him all the respect of his office. But when you get home and the doors are closed you run and sit on his lap and call him ‘Daddy’!
God the Holy Spirit; our friend, supporter, counsellor and guide, our ‘life coach’. Lives in us and is incredibly patient with us. How many times a day we sin but the Holy Spirit is still there supporting us and sometimes picking us up when we are down. Never condemning us but guiding our conscience. Sometimes we might feel convicted but it is because He keeps on loving us, never giving up on us.
The Holy Spirit is powerful. In these last days He has been “poured out” Acts2:17, 33, and He has been poured out in “power”, Acts 1:8.
That power is at work in us, Ephesians 1:19,20.
Friends get to know the Holy Spirit. Maybe you always pray to the Lord Jesus or to God the Father, that is fine but get to know God your Counsellor and Guide. When I was self-employed in the UK the Holy Spirit used to help me organise and accomplish my work and now in Uganda the Holy Spirit is my “Senior Partner” (as Rev David Yonggi Cho has written). Without Him I keep making mistakes!
Father, Son and Holy Spirit; praise God!
Prayer Points
Let us keep praying that God kicks Corona Virus out of Uganda. And let’s pray for our leaders who make decisions for Uganda.
Let’s pray for those really struggling who have lost their income at this time. And let us pray for the economy of Uganda-yes! God cares about our economy.
Pray for children in Uganda with disabilities-that they may receive the help they need, that they feel loved and the love of God and that the government will prioritise their needs and have the political will to help children with disabilities.
Thank you, Hugh Pilcher.
